ANNOUNCEMENT: The g4g lab, a place of science exploration, experimenting and wonder, is now open!

Brussels, Belgium, 20 November 2021 — International non-profit greenlight for girls (g4g) is launching the g4g Lab, a free, online educational tool designed to invite young science explorers from around the world to experiment with Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

We’ve always dreamed of how we actually connect girls from one part of the world to another? How can we help further groups that benefit from what we do – schools, teachers, parents and even more kids? The g4g Lab is home to all STEM adventurers; packed with hands-on experiments, interactive content and inspiring videos.

What if learning was about experience? This is one of the funding principles of the g4g Lab. All g4g’s activities and programs create a sense of anticipation and always rely on a strong hands-on and interactive element, and the g4g Lab is no different. Children will be invited to grab their goggles and labcoat and go explore the world around them, have fun with hands-on experiments and clue hunts, see their surroundings in a new STEMtastic way, connect every-day objects to science, or go on STEM adventures around the world!

What if learning was about community? The second pillar of the g4g Lab is its strong sense of community. As an international non-profit organization, g4g is connected to many inspiring scientists and STEM professionals around the world. The g4g Lab will be a place for children to connect with these role-models and be inspired by their stories and journeys.

What if learning was about opportunities? Greenlight for girls wishes to contribute to building a world where everyone has an equality of opportunity.  All are welcome to join the g4g Lab, regardless of their academic performance, field of study, experience, geography, or backgrounds. This virtual world is not your average place to learn. It is a place where your learning environment IS your environment. We just help make it come alive.

“The g4g LAB is an arduous work of love (and science, of course). The concept came from our very first beginning of g4g when we put forth our 5-10-20-30 year strategy with the vision that one day we may be able to put all of our knowledge in a way and place that would create more global connections for the young adventurers & the role models we serve, foster further in-depth learning to create a further impact on their confidence and skill-building, and enable more continuity of community between our g4g activities and events around the globe. For the first 10 years of our organization, our goal was all about learning where & how we could impact future STEM leaders, creating events that taught & inspired them, and building an incredible partnership model with like-minded companies and role-model individuals”, explains Melissa Rancourt, Founder and Board President of greenlight for girls.

She further elaborates, “Labs can be anywhere – they are a place of wonder and adventure, a place where we can welcome the unexpected, and challenge the way we think. Labs transport you to new ideas, get you excited to learn new things, and help connect you to people and things that inspire you. That’s precisely what our g4g Lab aims to accomplish.’

‘At g4g, we want to make sure everyone in the world can have a chance to join us and explore, experiment, connect and have fun with STEM’ says Indra Weber, Project Manager at greenlight for girls. ‘We have built this world trying to think ‘what do the 12 years old around us want to do and see? How can we encourage their curiosity? Foster their creativity? Invite them to experiment, build, de-construct the world around them’.

The g4g Lab is an interactive world where children are encouraged to explore and have fun with science:

  • Go on expeditions in our Exploration playground - uncover the secret of fast-fashion, electric racing cars, underground mushroom and much more.

  • The Experiment lab is the place to get hands-on, have fun with tutorials and experiments, and replicate them at home. Say hello to edible slime and solar-powered car!

  • Ready to transform into your super science self? See what kind of inventor you are? Who is your STEM super hero? Then head out to our Transformation station!

  • Grab a cuppa and be ready to be connected with amazing scientists and STEM professionals in our Connect Café. Listen to their stories and see what inspired them to follow their dreams.

  • Breathe in...breathe out! Come re-charge yourself with our creative STEM wellness, fun movement, and relaxing breaks in our Recharge Camp!

  • Problem solver wanted: Ready to make/break/create and reinvent everyday objects into new designs and inventions? Then the Design Studio is the place for you!

This project invites any interested children and school to apply to join the g4g Lab. It is open to all STEM learners, but is particularly suited for young STEM explorers aged 10-15 years old. This is a FREE, open access education tool that anybody can access and join, but they do need to apply.
